An Update Regarding COVID-19

At CJ’s Heating and Cooling, we know that we are facing an unprecedented event in the form of COVID-19, or the novel coronavirus. It is important to us that our customers know that we are taking every precaution to limit the spread of this virus while continuing to offer essential HVAC services to our community. We are committed to doing everything we can to help our customers stay safe. Our prices are remaining the same, our recommendations will continue to be in the best interests of our customers, and we will never try to sell any “magic product” guaranteed to keep you safe. As with most things, the best possible results come from many layers of protection.

What Is COVID-19?

Coronavirus is a new, highly contagious strain of a virus that has been around for a very long time. Another strain of Coronavirus is the common cold, for example. Transmission occurs largely through contact with infected water droplets, usually as a result of being near someone infected when they sneeze or cough. Recent studies out of Iceland suggest that as many as half of infected people may be asymptomatic and unaware that they are spreading the virus. When they do appear, symptoms may include a dry cough, fever, and difficulty breathing.

How We’re Protecting Our Customers

Though many people are home to try and do their part to limit the spread, a pandemic does not keep HVAC problems from cropping up. This is why we are continuing to offer our essential service during this challenging time.

Our technicians and office staff are abiding by all precautions recommended by the CDC and the World Health Organization, such as:

  • Maintaining thorough hygiene and sanitization practices. This includes hand washing before arriving on a job site and before departing, utilizing hand sanitizer frequently, and disinfecting all commonly-used surfaces in our office, vehicles, and around our work area in the home.

  • Practicing social distancing and keeping the recommended six feet away from others.

  • Utilizing protective coverings such as drop cloths, shoe coverings, and masks to limit contact with various surfaces.

  • Ensuring that any employee who is sick stays home and recovers, and does not return to work until given clearance from a physician.

How You Can Help

There are several things that you as the homeowner can do to ensure that both you and our technician stay safe during your service. These include:

  • Informing us if anyone in your home is sick: We will still provide the service you need but will take extra precautions to ensure everyone’s safety

  • Maintaining good hygiene: Frequent hand washing, sanitizing commonly-used surfaces, and properly cleaning incoming items (such as from the grocery store) can all help keep the virus out of your home

  • Staying at home: By minimizing contact with others as much as possible, you are reducing your risk of becoming infected and transmitting the virus to others

  • Examining your indoor air quality: Some systems have demonstrated success against other viruses, and having clean air can overall make quarantine a better, more pleasant experience

Indoor Air Quality

The quality of the air in your home is always important – many people spend the majority of their time indoors and could be breathing air up to five times as polluted as the air outside. Doing what you can to minimize the allergens, dust, dirt, toxic chemicals, and biological contaminants is a good idea for anyone wanting to improve their health. Most indoor air quality systems that focus on contaminants will either use filters or electrostatic technology to remove unwanted particles or use UV light to neutralize biological contaminants like bacteria, viruses, and mold spores.

In light of recent events, many homeowners are investigating whether any of these systems may be helpful in the fight against COVID-19. At CJ’s Heating and Cooling, we want to reiterate that there is no one product that will protect anyone from this virus. There is no replacement for the precautionary measures we have outlined above.
