Services for Furnaces

A furnace is a forced-air heating system that uses heat exchangers to warm up the air before circulating it through the home’s ductwork. Blower fans help push the warm air throughout the ducts. Furnaces can be powered by either gas or electricity.

The advantages of a furnace include:

  • Ease of improving air quality: With a furnace, you can condition the air by filtering it or installing a humidification system
  • Energy efficiency: Natural gas is historically affordable and burns cleanly and efficiently
  • Reliability: Furnaces are durable and have fairly long lifespans

What Is a Boiler?

A boiler is a type of heater that warms your home by creating hot water or steam in a large tank. In neither of these systems does hot water actually "boil," rather, using gas, oil, or electricity to create heat, the hot water or steam is dispersed throughout the home to warm it.

Hot Water System vs. Steam System

In a hot water system, which is the most common, the water is heated to a set temperature and circulated with pumps through the system. In a steam system, the water is heated and the steam is forced through the system by gravity and pressure created by the steam. Steam, however, is one of the least efficient ways to heat a house because of the amount of BTUs needed to turn water into steam.

New high-efficiency hot water boilers operate off of the outdoor air temperature and regulate how hot it actually makes the water, when it is warmer out it knows that it only needs water at say 140 degrees versus when it is colder out it needing water that is 180 degrees. They can also be adjusted based on how the home is heated, such as with radiators, baseboards, floor heat, hot water forced air systems, or others.
